Women’s Mental Health.

Online Counselling can help you to find yourself in a world that expects so much.

People-pleasing, anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, stress, depression, trauma, low self-worth, guilt, self-harm, hyper-independence, and imposter syndrome.

These are just some of the struggles many women face every day. These challenges don’t come out of nowhere; they’re often rooted in the pressures and expectations society places on us. That’s why my approach to counselling looks at all of you—your unique experiences, relationships, personality, and the social and cultural factors shaping your life. I see and hear you, as the unique and wonderful person you are and also the parts of you that are part of a shared experience of womanhood. Together, we can make a space that is yours, and implement strategies for healing and change.

Top Mental Health Issues Facing Australian Women.

Fact: Women are significantly more likely than men (about 2 X’s) to report, experience, and/or be diagnosed with an Anxiety Disorder, Depression, Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder and Body-Image Issues. They are also more likely to report feelings of low self-worth.

Fact: These issues are experienced at even high rates amongst LGBTQI+ women, non-binary women, trans-women, women of colour, Indigenous women, women who live with a disability, women who live with a chronic health issue, women who are refugees and women who are linguistically and culturally diverse (CALD).

Fact: Less than 50% of women who experience a mental health issue or a mental illness actually seek support.

Fact: Financial pressures including a pay-gap, cost of living pressures, and loss of finances and assets post-separation is reported as a top stressor experienced by women in Australia, causing significant mental health issues.

Fact: Older women are the fastest growing group of people who experience homelessness in Australia. Domestic and family violence and financial inequality are drivers of this.

These Facts Are Clear: Women’s Mental Health Must Go Beyond A One-Size-Fits-All Approach!

To create meaningful change, we need support that recognises how societal pressures, gender roles, and systemic inequalities shape women’s experiences and mental health. Therapy that takes these factors into account doesn’t just treat symptoms—it addresses the root cause, empowering women to break free from cycles of stress, guilt, and self-neglect. When care is tailored to women’s unique challenges, it paves the way for deeper healing, resilience, and lasting change.

Why I Focus on Women’s Wellbeing.

Many women grow up being taught to put everyone else’s needs before their own. You’re expected to be the caregiver, the peacekeeper, the one who holds everything together—and somewhere along the way, your own needs get left behind. This kind of pressure builds up over time and can leave you feeling exhausted, anxious, or even unsure of who you are anymore. You might find yourself juggling so many roles that there’s no time or energy left for you. And if you do try to focus on yourself, there’s often that annoying guilt or worry about letting others down. It’s no wonder so many women feel stuck, burnt out, and disconnected.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many women in this situation struggle with feelings of emptiness or resentment, questioning why they can’t seem to feel “enough.” Maybe you’re striving to be perfect, trying to please everyone, but still feeling like you’re falling short. It’s a frustrating and lonely place to be, especially if you’re surrounded by a family who just don’t get it—but it’s not your fault. These patterns are often deeply rooted in how society/culture has shaped you to think and act. These patterns of anxious over-thinking, people-pleasing, lack of assertiveness, fear and worry, burnout and stress, and hyper-independence can be hard to break without the right support.

This is where telehealth therapy can do wonders for your wellbeing. In a safe, non-judgmental space, you can start unpacking all those expectations and begin to understand how they’ve impacted you. Therapy isn’t just about “fixing” problems—it’s about helping you reconnect with who you really are, beneath all the roles and responsibilities. It gives you the tools to set boundaries, grow self-compassion, and feel more in control. Most importantly, it’s a space where you get to be the priority for once. What are you waiting for?

“A Feminist counselling lens looks at the individual in all their uniqueness AND also looks at the context in which they live. This includes systemic power structures, family systems, gender stereotypes and gender roles. It acknowledges that our identity (gender but also other intersectional aspects too) plays a big role in how we experience life, and therefore mental health”.

What Happens in A Session With Amber Rose Counselling?

First and foremost, a session with me is always all about you. Whilst we might work on some therapy goals together that are initiated by you, in general you get to choose the focus on each session. Some sessions will be ‘vent’ sessions where you just need to talk something out. Others might be more about exploring an issue and getting to the deep roots. Others will be about strategies and practicing new skills. Whatever it is you need!

I will use my experience and training to make sure you feel safe to express yourself. I will use my expertise to guide you with different tools and strategies that will target the issue at hand.

Feminist Therapy and Integrative Counselling with Amber Rose Counselling.

I use a wholistic and integrative technique. I know right, what? Basically this is an effective therapy practice where I train in a number of areas so I can use tools from different types of therapies. Why? Because therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Everyone is unique, so in a way each counselling session must also be unique. I use evidence-based therapy that is tailored to you. Together, we find what works for you, and what doesn’t.

A feminist therapy lens helps because it recognises that we cannot fully understand ourselves in isolation; our experiences, beliefs, and struggles are shaped by the social, cultural, and systemic forces we live within. This approach helps us explore how systems like family, gender roles, and societal expectations have influenced our sense of self, relationships, and wellbeing. By acknowledging these broader contexts, feminist therapy empowers us to challenge narratives that don’t fit anymore, reclaim our authentic identity, and create meaningful change in our lives. This is done in conjunction with other evidence-based therapies and tools.
